BRAVO COMMUNITY ORCHESTRA ANNOUNCES THEIR 24/25 SEASON

October 28, 2024 – BRAVO Community Orchestra (BCO), a program of BRAVO Youth Orchestras, is pleased to announce the concerts for the 2024 – 2025 season. All concerts will take place at the Roosevelt High School Auditorium. Concert dates are: Friday, December 20; Friday, March 14; and Friday, May 30. All concerts begin at 7pm. BCO is conducted by Maestro Giancarlo Castro D’Addona.

Neal Spinler, BRAVO’s Executive Director shares, “The BCO is North Portland’s Own Orchestra. The musician roster consists of current and former BRAVO Youth Orchestra students along with community members of all ages. It is truly a representation of North Portland on the BCO stage. Nothing like this exists anywhere else in the city. All concerts are a Pay What You Wish scale with the option to attend for free. Our mission at BRAVO has always been to remove the financial barriers that may keep our community members from participating in music. If you want to purchase a ticket, that is wonderful. If free is the option for you, that is also wonderful. What is important is that you get to experience the talent of our wonderful orchestra.”

“I am very happy to begin my sixth year as the conductor of the BRAVO Community Orchestra!” states Giancarlo Castro D’Addona. “I have had the opportunity to watch this wonderful orchestra grow to 50 musicians involving students, community members, and BRAVO staff, and I am proud that together we have become an iconic orchestra in the North Portland community!”

“This season we will have a very diverse repertoire, opening our first concert with music by Beethoven, Bizet, Strauss, and Stravinsky. Our second concert will take us into the world of movie soundtracks, and our closing concert will feature some of the greatest hits of all time. Like every year, we are going to have our different BRAVO young ensembles start off the evenings sharing their talents with the audience. ”

A significant change to BCO’s programming this year is the location. Spinler says, “The University of Portland has been our performance hall for many years, but we simply grew too big for it! We still rehearse there and are thankful to UP for their continuing support of community arts. Moving our concerts to the beautiful Roosevelt Auditorium will give our musicians a proper performance hall which will result in a greater experience for the audience.”

Castro D’Addona adds, “Our 24-25 season brings excitement for the entire family, including children, teens, and adults, whether they are lovers of orchestral music or if it is their first time attending a concert. Each performance is a unique moment of celebration, joy, and most importantly, a sense of community. I can’t wait to see you all at our upcoming concerts!”
